Olly the Oyster has been cited by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as an educational resource for students to learn how oysters filter and clean the water. In addition, Olly the Oyster has been featured in student educational programs at schools, libraries, museums and environmental organizations.
The Olly the Oyster book series teaches children about oysters and their importance in the environment. While these books are set in the Chesapeake Bay, located in the Delmarva (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia) peninsula, oysters can be found all over the world working hard at cleaning up their environments.
