My 10 year old daughter and I made these tea sets recently in celebration of Mother’s Day. Made from Sculpey Clay, they are actually very easy to make.
Most pieces began with making a small ball out of the clay. Then we used the eraser end of a pencil to make the hole inside each piece. Just make the ball smaller for a cup, and bigger for a teapot, creamer or sugar bowl.
The saucers for the cups also began as little balls of clay, then we flattened them out with our fingers. We made a larger ball for the serving trays, then flattened them out as well. It takes a little time and patience, but the time is well spent with your daughter who can tell you all about her latest adventures while you work together.
Finally, we used stickers to give the tea sets a theme. You can also put a craft varnish on each piece to seal it and make it shiny. Here, the pink set and purple set are varnished, but the yellow set we left “flat”.
To make the tea set a gift you can paint the box that came with your favorite tea bags, like I did here. I painted the box yellow, varnished it, and put lady bug stickers on it at the corners to match the tea set. I also put bright red tissue paper inside. This might make a great gift for grandma as well!!!
Products I use:
I love Sculpey clay. It is so easy to squeeze and work with my hands. Some types of clay are hard and better for rolling out and cutting with a tool. I prefer to shape the clay as I work with it and so far this brand is the best.
